Free running game with a twist

ZigZag Race is a free arcade game that puts you into increasingly challenging courses. In this top-down runner from Silent Valley, you guide a constantly-moving dot, tapping to change the direction in which it moves. Making the game challenging are angular walls that leave you with varying widths of paths to fit yourself through. Be careful, though, as touching any of the walls immediately ends your run.

With zero background music, a simple one-tap control system, and minimalistic graphics, ZigZag Race is a great game to pass the time. It’s quite similar to Circulate Avoid or Flappy Bird.

A casual dodging game

Minimalism dominates every aspect of the ZigZag Race app. As soon as you open it, it already shows the game stage with a tap to start instruction. Once you do so, the dot starts moving in one direction, either left or right, and tapping makes it go the opposite way. All the while, the dot moves vertically, putting you in the way of obstacles—dodge them and you continue accumulating points.

As you start posting scores, the app automatically determines your Average and High Scores. Both of these points are also visually marked every time you play. The game lets you know if you’ve already surpassed any of them. Dying in the game will show you your score and your accumulated coins. Players also have the option to restart or choose a different dot design.

While the dots have alternate skins, the stage doesn’t. You play through the same level and background. Although visually distinguishable, seeing the same patterns get tiring after some time. Additionally, the app is prone to hiccups in terms of performance. The slightest change in your background apps or the appearance of a notification can cause slight lags in the game, which will definitely throw off your game.

Fun, casual, but prone to hiccups

If you’re looking for something to pass the time, try considering ZigZag Race. It only requires your attention, reflex, and tapping on the screen, leaving you to try and raise your average or post new high scores. However, a minimalist game such as this one can only offer fun for so long. The limited content and its tendency to lag from the slightest changes.
